It is said that dinosaurs once ruled the Earth but became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous Period. The Tyrannosaurus rex, called the T-rex for short, is one of the most ferocious predators. Imagine coming face to face with this beast. Nope… we rather see its skeleton in a museum or steer into its eyes while on my coach munching on popcorn. Movies such as Jurassic Park feature this creature but the real-life T-rex was certainly scarier than the fictional representation we see in the movies. Let’s look at a few of the ways that T-rexes were more frightening than the movies.  1. They Had Keen Senses of Smell The T-rex had a keen sense of smell. This means that they were easily able to sniff out their prey even if it may have been out of its line of vision. As a matter of fact, scientists found that given the size of the olfactory bulbs of the T-rex, it has been inferred that this dinosaur had an enhanced sense of smell. Their prey just couldn’t hide. But wait, this feature was not promoted in the movie, Jurassic Park, as there were scenes where the T-rex came close to humans, didn’t identify them and just walked away. I guess that’s all part of the entertainment and keeping you at the edge of your seat.  2. They Had A Keen Sense of Sight The T-rex had an excellent sense of sight. In the movies, we are made to believe that the vision of the T-rex was based on movement and if one remains extremely still then he would not be spotted. Well, the T-rex had no motion sensors. It had excellent vision due to its front-facing eyes in a narrow skull. Its vision is far more powerful and is capable of seeing objects 6 kilometers away. A T-rex could have spotted its prey from a distance.   3. There Were No Loud Footfalls Some animals like the rhino cause the ground to tremble but the same can’t be said for the T-rex. The T-rex, though huge, steps stealthily as it seeks to devour its prey. The undersides of their feet were soft, causing them to not stomp but to tread lightly. We can’t deny the sound effects and loud stomping on Jurassic Park, but dramatic scenes sell. So in the real world, you would definitely not hear the T-rex coming and you would be caught unaware.     4. Its Bite Force Was Unbelievably Strong The bite force of the T-rex was extremely powerful, something that was underestimated for some time. It had the strongest bite of all the terrestrial animals. Researchers now reveal that this dinosaur’s bite is harder than they thought. After some experiments were conducted, it was found that a T-rex’s maximum bite force was almost 12800 pounds. Can you imagine being torn apart by this monster? Certainly, the movies weren’t that graphic.  5. It Wasn’t Very Fast An animal of this size certainly wasn’t a sprinter. Scientists have revealed that the T-rex had a maximum speed of about 19 kilometers per hour. If it went any faster, its bones would shatter. Keep in mind that humans can run approximately 24 kilometers per hour. So, you do the Math. This means that humans would have been capable of outrunning the T-rex. What we see in Jurassic Park is quite the opposite.
