All countries have their unique laws which are instituted for one reason or another. To be a law abiding citizen or visitor it is important to know these laws and adhere to them. Some laws, though you may think are weird, speak to various items and practices that have been banned and if broken, can land you in a pickle. So if you are ever going on a vacation, be sure to familiarize yourself with the laws of the land. Here are five weird things that have been banned in various countries. 1. Baby Walkers in Canada Anyone with a baby at home probably has quite a bit of baby gear and a baby walker may be one of them, well, not if you’re in Canada. From 2004, baby walkers have been banned in Canada by the federal government. This ban stipulates that no one can buy a new or used baby walker in Canada. People who possessed one prior to the band were asked to dismantle it and discard it. But why you may ask? Baby walkers were deemed dangerous. Babies do not possess the reflexes and cognitive abilities to use them safely and there were reports of many babies sustaining injuries while in them. 2. Chewing Gum in Singapore  In 1992, a ban was imposed on the sale of chewing gum in Singapore, in an effort to keep the place clean. In addition, it is believed that such rules help maintain discipline among its people. The intended purpose of the chewing gum sales restriction was to lessen gum-related litter in high-rise public housing flats, public areas and public transportation. Gum left in common areas on mailboxes, in keyholes and elevator buttons was expensive to clean up. In 2004, a law was passed legalizing gum obtained from doctors and licensed pharmacists. 3. Flip Flops in Capri, Italy If you are looking to vacation on the island of Capri, Italy then be aware that you should refrain from packing your flip flops as they are banned on the island. It is unlawful to wear noisy footwear particularly flip flops in Capri because the locals value a peaceful atmosphere. There have been cases where visitors have landed in hot water and been arrested for this crime. 4. Kinder Surprise Candy Eggs in the United States Kinder surprise candy eggs have been banned in the United States. These hollow eggs, about the size of a large hen’s egg, were made from milk chocolate. The individually wrapped chocolate treats included a tiny toy in an oval shaped plastic capsule. The parts of the toy in each egg had to be assembled. The toys hidden inside the egg posed a hazard to young children and the product was therefore banned. 5. Wearing Camouflage in Barbados Wearing camouflage has been prohibited in Barbados, an island in the Caribbean from 1980. The restriction was implemented to stop gang members from dressing in camouflage to impersonate soldiers and commit crimes. Even though these occurrences are no longer a concern, the statute is still in place and violators may face fines. If you’re ever a visitor to Barbados, please keep all camouflage pattern clothing out of your suitcase.
