Jailbreaks are often portrayed in movies and TV shows as thrilling escapes from captivity. However, in reality, they can be dangerous and often end in tragedy. Here are five jailbreaks that didn't end well. 1. Alcatraz Island  Alcatraz is one of the most famous prisons in the world, and for good reason. It was designed to be escape-proof, with high walls, gun towers, and a location in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Despite this, in 1962, three prisoners - Frank Morris and brothers Clarence and John Anglin - managed to escape from Alcatraz by digging through the walls of their cells and crawling through an air vent. They made a raft out of raincoats and set off into the bay, but were never seen again. To this day, no one knows for sure if they drowned or managed to make it to shore. 2. Attica Correctional Facility  In 1971, inmates at Attica Correctional Facility in New York took over the prison and held 42 staff members hostage. The inmates demanded better living conditions and political rights, but their negotiations with authorities were unsuccessful. After four days, Governor Nelson Rockefeller ordered state police to retake the prison by force. The resulting siege left 39 people dead - 29 inmates and ten correctional officers. 3. Maze Prison  In 1983, 38 Irish Republican Army (IRA) prisoners escaped from Maze Prison in Northern Ireland by digging a tunnel with spoons and knives. The escape was a major embarrassment for the British government, and a massive manhunt was launched to recapture the prisoners. Most of them were eventually caught, but one, Gerry Kelly, went on to become a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly. 4. Mexican Prison Break  In 2021, over 100 inmates escaped from a prison in Tamaulipas, Mexico, after a deadly riot broke out. The escapees were armed and dangerous, and many of them went on a rampage, setting fire to buildings and cars and clashing with police. The situation was eventually brought under control, but not before dozens of people were killed or injured. 5. The Great Escape  The Great Escape was a daring plan by Allied prisoners of war during World War II to escape from Stalag Luft III, a Nazi prison camp in Poland. The plan involved digging three tunnels, codenamed Tom, Dick, and Harry, and using them to get hundreds of prisoners out of the camp. However, the plan was discovered, and only 76 of the 200 prisoners who escaped made it to safety. The rest were recaptured or killed. &nbsp;
