Excuses are a part of human nature. Whether it's to explain why we're late for work, a meeting, or a party, we all have our reasons. Of course, the consequences of those excuses can vary. Being late for an appointment might not have legal implications, but if you're ever pulled over by the police or accused of a crime, you'll need a convincing excuse to avoid ending up in jail. The people on this list thought they’d get away with their excuses, but their creativity went too far. Here are five hilarious excuses people gave to the police to cover their crimes.
1. Sylvester Stallone One of the most famous cases of hilarious excuses involved actor Sylvester Stallone. In 2007, the actor was caught illegally importing 48 vials of human growth hormone into Australia. Stallone claimed that a medical doctor prescribed the banned substance for an undisclosed medical condition. However, no doctor's name was ever mentioned, and it was unlikely that Stallone could have gotten a prescription for it in the United States, as it was also banned there. Stallone was fined $2500.
2. Muhammad Ikhlaq In another case, prison security guard, Muhammad Ikhlaq was arrested on suspicion of soliciting while driving through Walsall, United Kingdom with a known escort in his car. However, Ikhlaq insisted that the escort was just trying to show him where to buy tomatoes. He claimed that he was withdrawing cash from a nearby ATM to pay for the produce when the police saw him with the woman in his car. Unfortunately for Ikhlaq, the police did not find his excuse convincing, and he was fined for his conduct.
3. Plamen Uzunov Gardener, Plamen Uzunov had a different excuse for his criminal activity. He was found in possession of more than 250 plants with £300,000 at various stages of growth in a factory in Wales. Uzunov told the police that he was only looking after the plants for a friend, who would pay him £1,500 for six weeks of care. He also wouldn't have to worry about accommodation, as the plants were being grown in a converted bedroom. However, the police didn’t buy his excuse, and Uzunov was arrested. He eventually admitted to committing an offense and was jailed for 18 months. The plants were then destroyed.
4. Thomas Stroup Thomas Stroup had a very memorable encounter with police when he was 20 years old. Deputies received a call that a violent male was attacking people at a campground in Ohio. When they arrived on the scene, they found Stroup sleeping under a trailer when they arrived on the scene. He violently growled at them before they arrested him. During the journey to jail, Stroup apologized for his behavior and claimed he had consumed too much vodka earlier that day. He also blamed his violent reaction to people on a wolf scratch incident. According to him, it happened whenever there was a full moon.
5. Sharon Robinson Sharon Robinson had a very strange excuse for the crime she committed back in 2018. She inflicted a 2.5-inch knife wound on her partner, Jonathan Gimblett, while he was in bed in his home in Wales. She then left him there for several hours before calling an ambulance to assist him. Robinson claimed that her partner had fallen on the knife while he was in the kitchen. When she saw that he was bleeding profusely, she put him to bed so that he could stay warm. Gimblett's wound was severe, and he needed a blood transfusion. Robinson also had two previous cautions and was sentenced to 18 months in jail for her actions.
