Frauds Who Faked It Till They Made It… Then Didn’t

It’s one thing to tell a white lie, but for many people this isn’t enough so they take their deceptions to all-time, crazy new heights. Just about everyone around them seems to fall for their schtick until it all comes crashing down right before their very eyes. And sometimes instead of coming clean, some would rather dig their heels in or just flat out refuse to comment about it at all. So, let’s have a look at these five frauds who managed to fake it, but only for so long.\r \r 1. Mamoru Samuragochi Faked Being Deaf for 18 Years\r \r Japan’s Beethoven, Mamoru Samuragochi, was one of the country’s most amazing composers who just so happened to be deaf… or so everyone thought. And for 18 long years too! He was finally outed by his ghostwriter who stated that Samuragochi was never a composer and can’t even read sheet music. Furthermore, his hearing was one hundred percent, perfectly fine. At first, Samuragochi claimed that he had only just started getting his hearing back. But when he couldn’t deny it anymore, he decided to return the certificate that stated he was disabled.\r \r 2. Rachel Dolezal Infamously Pretended to Be Black\r \r Who could forget about Rachel Dolezal, the “trans-racial” woman who was born white to two fully white parents but lived her life as an African-American. She first gained public attention after claiming that she was the victim of numerous hate crimes, and it wasn’t long people started questioning her ethnicity, which led to the discovery of her tall tales. Dolezal even claimed that her biological father was an African-American man who she had seen in photos, and that her adopted brother was her son.\r \r 3. Carlos Kaiser Faked Being a Pro-Footballer\r \r Most fans of pro-football or soccer, if that’s what you prefer to call it, should be familiar with the story of the soccer player who never was. For over twenty years, Carlos Kaiser charmed his way into the hearts of 13 teams, numerous players and club owners alike without ever having kicked a ball. That’s because whenever he got signed, he’d immediately get “injured” by kids who he paid to mob him. He even hired spectators to chant his name whenever the bosses were around. All this, because he liked being a player, but not the physical, actual act of playing.\r \r 4. A Woman Faked Being a Nurse for 20 Years\r \r Being a doctor or nurse is one of those jobs that require years of education and experience. But one Canadian woman managed to find a loophole out of this requirement by using the same name as a real nurse. So for twenty years, she’d tend to patients, administer their medication and even assist during surgeries. Her ruse only came tumbling down when someone noticed that her license number was the same as the real nurse whose identity she stole. Though it remains uncertain if anyone was harmed under her watch.\r \r 5. Sarah Wilson Faked Being Royalty\r \r Sarah Wilson was a British convict who, after escaping from slavery in 1772, started a new life of power and importance as Princess Susanna Caroline Matilda of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the sister of the Queen Charlotte. During her short-lived reign, Wilson rubbed shoulders with loads of influential members of high society including politicians. She replicated the manners of the court quite convincingly, and even managed to snatch a picture of the Queen to make her story more authentic. She was recaptured by her previous owner but escaped again, got married then vanished for good.
